Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

It has been such a long time since the last time I did a book review. I used to read anywhere between 1 to 3 books a month and post my thought on the book. I stopped because I felt tv, sleeping, or sitting around doing nothing was more important than reading a book. Then something happened. Last month my daughter brought a book home. While waiting for her during her doctor’s appointment I started to read the book. Within just a couple of pages, I was so hooked into reading the book; “Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell. My oldest asked me my thoughts on what I read. I explained to my oldest that it seems like a really good book with the plot and writing also that I may have to go to the library to see about checking it out to finish reading the book. My oldest indicated that she is reading it in class and the next thing I know my oldest asked her teacher for an extra copy for me to read. She totally made my day when she came home with the book for me. This was back in December. I read a couple of pages here and there. Then last night, I felt that it would be better to read a book than to watch tv all night long. Glad I did. I found the book something that is relatable to many kids now and days. Many kids now in days struggle in their homes with step-parents, violence, poverty and self-conscious. To be able to meet someone that started out as if you thought that person was mean and then become the best of friends, was inspiring in my opinion. Helps to encourage others to come out of their comfort zone and socialized with other people. Everyone is in need of a friend in some way or another. I truly enjoyed watching the friendship blossom with Eleanor and Park. However, there were two things that I did not enjoy of the story. The first was the vague information on the three situation towards the end of the book; the encounter with Eleanor and Park, the one at the end with the step dad, and the aunt and uncle. Lastly, I don’t want to ruin what happen with a spoiler alert, but I feel the book would have been a better read for me if there was more detailed information during the end of the book. I give “Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell a 3.5 stars out of 5. The book would have closer to a 4 out of 5 stars if just more information was given to the reader towards the end of the story pertaining to what happened between Eleanor with Park, her step-dad, and her Aunt and Uncle. Looking forward to my next book and writing a review.

A Time to Speak (Mama B #1) by Michelle Stimpson

Four out of Five Stars

I don't know about you, but I enjoy a well written Christian Novel. Not too many books are out there that are clean writing and are well written. Michelle Stimpson did an amazing job with writing this story. As I read this book, I just felt like I was right there in the story with all the characters in the story. Was emotional when Mama B got emotional and worried when I saw the conflict of the story. The book had a decent ending, but I felt it ended with me feeling like a little more should have been written before "The End" of the story happened. But over all, a enjoyable pleasurable reading book.

Daughters by Florence Osmund

Four out of Five Stars!

Being a person of two races, I thought that this might be a nice book to read. Thought I grew up in the 90's and this took place way longer back than that, right after slavery. People who are of more that one race still tends to go through similar struggles. The lesson that is learned of no matter what your race is, you find yourself in who you are not what you are. In the story, the author did a fabulous job with the flow of the writing for the reader to enjoy the story and feel like part of the story. And when there is a turn in the story, the reader is about to connect with the characters in the story. Truly enjoyed reading this book!

Happy New Years

So my goal for last year was to read 75 books. And well, I didn't make it even close. I was a tad bit disappointed in myself of only reading about 36 books. So this year I am going to work towards a goal that I know I should be able to make and read a total of 40 books. And to start off I have two books to update my site with. Starting the New Year right!

Little Black Sheep: A Memoir by Ashley Cleveland

Five out of Five Stars!

The author did an amazing job with writing a story in such a way that you are able to connect with the characters! I feel that sometimes it is very difficult to write a good christian novel. Some stories try really hard to keep the faith in the story that just make it hard to either relate or connect with the charters. While others I feel struggle with understanding faith and what comes with it. With this story, the author did an amazing job balancing everything out. The writing was very well written, great reading pace and grad the reader to want to keep on reading. Lesson to be learned: Even if you feel that you are a black sheep or just not worth the time, God has a plan. He never forgets any of his sheep!

Gone by Stacy Claflin

Two out of Five Stars

Oh my word, what can I say? So I read the summary of the book, and thought this is going to be a great thriller. Low and behold, I was disappointed. The pace of the reading we well written. However, the flow of the story is where I was not too fond of. There were so many different direction the author was trying to take with the story which took away from how good the book could have been. When the author changed up the direction or flow of the story it made it frustrating when reading. All the tell tell signs of issues, I feel should have came up towards beginning of book as opposed to popping up in random spots within the story. To me if the author focus primarily on a specific direction in which the flow of the book would go; such as the dad and his infidelity, or the brother and best friend dating, it would help the reader grasp the story in such a way that they would want to keep reading the book and move on to the next series.
